This poem describes the different aspects of eyes – sometimes they are like a rose, sometimes like wine, and sometimes like a lake. Eyes are the home of ulfat (love) and nafrat (hate), and can also hide or reveal secrets and truths. This poem gives amazing beauty and power to the eyes, which fascinates people and sometimes even takes people’s lives, so the poet warns “O servants of God, take care of your eyes”.
Gulaab Aankhen, Sharab Aankhen,
Yahi to hain, La-Jawab Aankhen,
Inhee me ulfat, Inhee me nafrat,
Sawab Aankhen, Azab Aankhen,
Kabhi Nazar me bala ki shokhi,
Kabhi sarapa Hijab Aankhen,
Kabhi chupati hain raaz dil ke,
Kabhi hain dil ki kitab Aankhen,
Kisi ne dekhi to jheel jaisi,
Kisi ne pai sarab Aankhen,
Wo aaye to log mujh se bole,
Huzoor! Aankhen~Janab! Aankhen,
Ajeeb tha, Guftagoo ka Aalam,
Sawal Koi, Jawab Aankhen,
Hazaron inpar Qatal hue hain,
Khuda ke Bande, Sambhal Aankhen.
The poem describes many forms of eyes; Sometimes they are as soft as a rose, sometimes as intoxicating as wine, sometimes as calm as a lake and sometimes like a mirage in the desert.
Eyes are a confluence of both emotions, love and hate.
Sometimes she hides the secrets of her heart and other times she reveals everything like an open book.
When some special person comes, people get astonished to see this unique form of eyes, and call him “Huzur! Aankhein~Janaab! Aankhein”.
These eyes have so much power that they become the answers to questions and for many people they prove to be fatal, so the poet warns everyone to be careful. This poem poetically presents the power and beauty of the eyes, and tells how mysterious and amazing eyes are.
